Nevado de Toluca, also known as Xinantécatl, is a massive stratovolcano in central Mexico and one of the country’s highest mountains. 🪨 Geology
Nevado de Toluca is a complex andesitic-dacitic stratovolcano formed in a continental subduction-zone environment. Its principal rock types include andesite, basaltic andesite and dacite, with smaller quantities of related intermediate volcanic rocks. (Smithsonian Global Volcanism)

At least three major collapses of the volcanic edifice occurred during the Pleistocene. These failures generated enormous debris avalanches and lahars that spread across areas surrounding the volcano.
