Grays Peak

Grays Peak rises to approximately 14,276 feet (4,351 meters) on Colorado’s Continental Divide, forming the highest summit of the Front Range and one of the most popular fourteeners in the state. The route follows a constructed trail almost all the way to the summit.

Grays Peak is named for Asa Gray, one of the most influential American botanists of the nineteenth century.
Botanist Charles Christopher Parry first explored the Colorado Rocky Mountains in 1861.
During that expedition, the twin high summits now known as Grays and Torreys attracted his attention.
Parry named them for two fellow botanists:

Gray and Torrey had collaborated on A Flora of North America, an important nineteenth-century botanical work.
